Empty Columns

Empty Columns are a Place to Dream – Putting Birr under an International spotlight!

Under the curation of Ric Kasini Kadour, New Orleans and with the support of the Birr Historical Society, 18 collage artists from across the world have been researching, discussing, and responding to the Cumberland Pillar in Emmet Square Birr, its history, and contemporary issues relating to place, context and past.

The resulting collages will form an Open Air Gallery, with collage workshops with visiting artists from the exhibition and a talk at Birr Theatre & Arts Centre. A book will be published to accompany this important exhibition.

What would you put on the column? Ric Kasini Kadour lives in New Orleans, where they also have an empty column - from which the Confederate General Robert Lee was removed in 2017.
